A gramophone record (also known as a phonograph record, vinyl record, or simply a vinyl) is an analog sound storage format.[1] They take the form of flat discs made from polyvinyl chloride (older records were made from shellac), which are generally twelve inches wide, although ten-inch and seven-inch varieties exist. The seven-inch kind is also called a 45, as this is its rotation speed, and is typically used for singles.[2]
