Grand Sorcerer (abbreviated Grand Sorc.) was an illustrious title a witch or wizard could hold.
Known recipients[]
- Sidley Smirk Platter, a previous Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards.[1]
- Podric Batworthy, Order of Merlin, First Class.[2]
- Albus Dumbledore, Order of Merlin, First Class, Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot and Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards.[3]
Grand Sorcerer in Chief[]
Interestingly, Grand Sorcerer in Chief was the title that the Muggle king gave to the charlatan in Beedle the Bard's story Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump.[4] Any resemblance this use of the title bore to the real title of Grand Sorcerer, if any, is unclear.
Behind the scenes[]
- It is possible that this title was stripped from Dumbledore during the campaign to discredit him. If not, it would be the only one of his titles to not at the very least have its removal considered. However, it is possible that Grand Sorcerer is merely a honorific that is not controlled by any official organisation, in which case the Ministry would have been powerless to actually strip him of it (though they may have, and likely did, forbid it from being printed in relation to Dumbledore).
