Graves was the surname of a wizarding family. It is unknown whether they were pure-blood or had any No-Maj heritage.

Gondulphus Graves was an American wizard and one of the original twelve Aurors for the Magical Congress of the United States of America. He was not one of the twelve to live to old age. The original twelve Aurors of MACUSA were held in high regard and their descendants were given particular respect. The Graves family remained influential in American wizarding politics.[1]
Percival Graves was an Auror, Director of Magical Security and head of MACUSA's Department of Magical Law Enforcement. He was President Seraphina Picquery's right hand man. In 1926, he was impersonated by the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald.[2]
Merton Graves was born in 1978 and was the cellist for the popular wizarding band, the Weird Sisters.[3]

Graves is an English occupational name for a steward, derived from Middle English greyve, itself from Old Norse greifi and Low German greve.[4][5]
It is also a French surname derived from the plural form of Old French grave, "gravel".[6]
It is also from Greek word for writer/scribe, "grapheus", or "γραφευς".[7][8]
