Mary Karasu: "These four chefs have achieved prefect harmony, fusing tradition with innovation and creativity!"
Rosa Karasu: "The end result is really quite extraordinary. And it's made all the better shared with treasured family and friends!"
— Mary and Rosa Karasu regarding the Great Hogwarts Cook-Off[src]

The Great Hogwarts Cook-Off was held during the 1988–1989 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It was originally meant to be a competition, but later became an extraordinary feast in which the four contestants made a collaborative meal.[1]

History[]

During the 1988–1989 school year, Madams Mary and Rosa Karasu visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to suggest such an event. The Madams Karasu were the judges, and their granddaughter, Tulip, recruited Jacob's sibling to co-organise it. They invited four contestants, Badeea Ali, Diego Caplan, Ismelda Murk and Jae Kim to compete (who would be cooking fish stew, flan, meat pie with blood sausages and tteokbokki respectively), and Murphy McNully to host and commentate.[1]

The cook-off started out smoothly, with four contestants finishing their dishes in time for the judges to review. Then, the Madams Karasu offered each of the dishes some constructive criticism, but inadvertently angered Ismelda when Mary called her dough "sad and soggy". She turned her meat pie into a monster, destroying Diego's flan and ruining the cook-off.[1]

Nevertheless, Jacob's sibling and Tulip wanted to salvage the event. They gathered the contestants, who discussed what they loved about the dishes they chose, and came up with the idea that sharing their ingredients with one another could improve all of their dishes. This effectively turned the cook-off into a matter of collaboration, with the contestants working together to create a marvellous feast. After the dishes were completed, students, judges and faculty gathered in the Great Hall and enjoyed the feast. Near the end, Professor Dumbledore announced on behalf of the Madams Karasu an award to Jacob's sibling for the crucial part they played in the event.[1]
