The Green Man is an ancient architectural motif. Apart from being purely decorative, it has also been interpreted as a legendary symbol of rebirth.[1]
In the wizarding world[]
The Green Man was depicted in the Serpentine Beast Window, a stained glass window in the Hogwarts Turris Magnus. Slytherin students were known to confuse the legendary icon with their house founder, Salazar Slytherin. The window depicted a serpentine beast coiling around a tree that extended from the Green Man's mouth.[2]
