Greywing was a griffin and one of the many beasts that Rubeus Hagrid cared for.[1]
History[]
At some point before 1985 or 1986, Hagrid acquired this griffin and she lived on the school grounds. At some point near Christmas between 1985 and 1990, she appeared very distraught, which caused Hagrid to worry over her, neglecting some of his other duties as Hogwarts gamekeeper. Secretly, Albus Dumbledore and Jacob's sibling examined her, and found no sign of any physical injuries. Jacob's sibling suggested that Greywing had become defensive of Hagrid's pumpkin patch, since, as a griffin, she had a natural instinct to protect treasure and because it was winter there were no pumpkins in the pumpkin patch for her to protect, causing her distress. Dumbledore agreed with Jacob's sibling's hypothesis, and gave Greywing a pot of Leprechaun gold to protect instead, which cheered Greywing up immensely, much to Hagrid's delight.[1]
