This Quidditch match took place in June 1992 between the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw Quidditch teams.[1] Ravenclaw won by a significant number of points. It was described as Gryffindor's worst defeat since 1692.[2]
History[]
The Gryffindor Seeker (Harry Potter) was in the Hospital Wing recovering from an attack by Lord Voldemort and Quirinus Quirrell in the Underground Chambers and was unable to play in the match.[1] Harry was informed of this defeat when he awoke, three days afterward, by his friend Ronald Weasley; despite losing the match, Gryffindor still won the House Cup due to last-minute points awarded by Headmaster Dumbledore.[1] The team Captain and Keeper Oliver Wood once again reminded the team of this prior to their first training session in the following school year, causing Harry to feel extreme guilt.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the PC version of the video game of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry is seen playing this match shortly after Norbert's hatching. The Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff match, that was shown in the book, is omitted from the storyline. The match is also featured in the PS1 version of the video game; it is difficult to establish when exactly during the school year it takes place — it starts after Harry and Ron rescue Hermione from the troll (an event which, itself, takes place after Christmas, even though it is supposedly set during Hallowe'en) and before Hagrid takes Harry to Diagon Alley to buy the ingredients for a Dragon Tonic to nurse Norbert back to health before Charles Weasley's colleagues come to pick the dragon up.
