A Guardian was an animated statue, bewitched by the Keepers as sentries.

History

In the late fifteenth century, numerous Guardians were created by the Keepers to protect their secret vaults and dungeons.

In the 1890–1891 school year, an unidentified 19th-century Hogwarts student destroyed the Guardians guarding the vault.

Known Guardians

Guardian in Vault 12

These Guardians were created by Percival Rackham and Charles Rookwood to protect Vault 12, before being destroyed by an unidentified 19th-century Hogwarts student during his/her and Eleazar Fig's Gringotts exploration in 1890.

The Guardians were only seen, as reflections on the ground, by wizards or witches who possessed the ability to perceive and use ancient magic when they were invisible. They had to cast the Revelio Charm to reveal the statues, armed with swords, which would stand up and call their Guardian fellows to fight intruders.

Pensieve Sentry

Pensieve Sentries were made by the Keepers to protect their memories and Pensieve. The sentries, armed with mace weapons, were guarding the Athenaeum, a secret chamber under the restricted section of Hogwarts Library, for centuries before being destroyed by an unidentified 19th-century Hogwarts in 1890.

Pensieve Guardian

Pensieve Guardians were created by the Keepers to guard their memories and Pensieves in their trial. These animated statues were very much larger than the Guardians in Vault 12 and the Pensieve Sentries.

In the 1890-1891 school year, an unidentified 19th-century Hogwarts student destroyed all of them during the trials.

Pensieve Sentinel

Pensieve Sentinels were bewitched by Charles Rookwood to protect his memory and Pensieve at Rookwood Castle. Ancient magic ensured that their weapons will always re-form after being thrown or disarmed away.

During Charles Rookwood's trial, an unidentified 19th-century Hogwarts student destroyed them all and reached the Pensieve.

Pensieve Protector

Pensieve Protectors were created by the Keepers to aid in the protection of ancient magic. Just like Pensieve Sentinels, ancient magic ensured that their weapons would always re-form after being thrown or disarmed away.
