"I'm worried about a large albino Diricawl known as "Gwyneira". She's a local legend, so of course poachers are after her."
Marianne Moffett on Gwyneira[src]

Gwyneira was a female albino Diricawl that lived in the late 19th century. She was hunted for her worthwhile feathers by the Poacher Pack arm of the Rookwood Gang.[1]

Biography[]

Gwyneira the Diricawl was known as a "local legend" by witches and wizards in Cragcroft, the hamlet nearby Hogwarts Castle, for her valuable feathers. When the Dark wizard Victor Rookwood's Poacher Pack came to settle down in the Highlands of Scotland in 1890, they were after the Diricawl and her albino feathers.[1]

Marianne Moffett asked a new fifth-year Hogwarts student to save and bring the bird to her, which the student succeeded in doing.[1]

Etymology[]

Gwyneira is a name of Welsh origin meaning "snowy white", which matched the Diricawl's iconic appearance. It could also mean "flirtatious" in Greek.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

  • Gwyneira's fate depended on the player's choice. There are three choices that lead to different results:

Yes (give it to Marianne) Marianne will say this: You're too kind. She has such exquisite plumage. Oh, I shall make the finest attire from her feathers. And she'll have a good life too, of course.[3]
It will cost you (ask for payment) Marianne will say this: I suppose that's fair. I'm well aware of how difficult she must have been to catch. She has such exquisite plumage. Oh, I shall make the finest attire from her feathers. And she'll have a good life too, of course.[3]
I'm keeping her (keep it) Marianne will say this: But it was my idea to rescue her! I'm the one who fell in love with her beautiful plumage! Oh, the cheek! What shall I do? Without her feathers I can't finish any of my fashion designs.

Aftermath, it would be likely kept in the Nab-sack or the Vivarium.[3]
