Hagrid was the surname of a wizarding family. Mr Hagrid married the Giantess Fridwulfa, and she bore him a half-giant son named Rubeus Hagrid.[1] It is unknown if Rubeus Hagrid ever had children, but it is known that he did not marry.

- Mr Hagrid — a wizard; father of Rubeus Hagrid who died when his son was twelve years old
- Rubeus Hagrid — a half-giant wizard, son of Mr Hagrid and Fridwulfa
- Jim Hamilton — a suspected Squib who plays on Scottish rugby team; possibly related to the Hagrid family, given his strong physical resemblance to Rubeus Hagrid.

Etymology
According to J. K. Rowling, the name Hagrid comes from the Old English word "hagridden", meaning to have a nightmarish night[2], particularly when hung over.
