Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter play hangman

"...and he spent the remaining hour and twenty minutes playing hangman on a corner of his parchment with Ron, while Hermione shot them filthy looks out of the corner of her eye."
—Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter play hangman[src]

Hangman is a guessing game for two or more players. One player thinks of a word and the other tries to guess it by suggesting letters. The players can use paper and pencil or a blackboard.[1]

During the 1995–1996 school year at History of Magic class, when students had to write an essay on Giant Wars, Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley instead spent an hour and twenty minutes playing hangman in the corner of Harry's parchment.

Sometime prior to its release to Muggle publication in 2001, Harry and Ron played hangman in the blank space of the edition notice of Harry's copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The word was Acromantula, but Ron failed to guess it before being "hung".[2]
