- "A Nimbus Two Thousand! I've never even touched one."
- — Ron Weasley on Harry's new broom[src]
In October 1991, Harry Potter received a Nimbus 2000 broomstick.[1]
History[]
This broomstick was arranged for Harry by Professor Minerva McGonagall after he was given a spot on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, as Seeker.[1] He rode this broom in all school Quidditch matches until 1993, when, during a match against Hufflepuff, he was attacked by Dementors and fell off his broom. The broom crashed into the Whomping Willow and was broken beyond repair. His friends returned the remains to Harry in a bag, but he decided to keep them instead of throwing them away.[3]
This was Harry's only broom that was not a gift from his godfather, as his Firebolt and his toy broomstick were both given to him by Sirius.
Behind the scenes[]
- It's never explicitly stated who paid for this broom, however it's likely to have been McGonagall herself as she's the one who made arrangements for Harry to receive it and it's unlikely she'd have access to Harry's inheritance to use that to pay for the broom due to McGonagall not being his legal guardian.
