Early on 31 July, 1993, Harry Potter realised he was thirteen years old. After realising it was his birthday, Harry was sent a Pocket Sneakoscope from his friend Ron Weasley, a Broomstick Servicing Kit from Hermione Granger, and a copy of The Monster Book of Monsters from Rubeus Hagrid. He was also sent a permission letter to go to the village of Hogsmeade from Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall.[1]
