A haunted mirror was presumably a type of magical mirror "haunted" by some sort of spirit[1]. The spirit (who might be a ghost) was presumably of some use to the owner of the Mirror[2], possibly in much the same way as a talking mirror.

Janus Galloglass, a mirror-maker in Diagon Alley, sold haunted mirrors among other products[1], a fact which he advertised outside his shop.
