Haunted pumpkins were eerie, glowing pumpkins that had become a scary rumour when a frightening event happened on the Knight Bus in the 2010s.[1]
History[]
In the early 2010s, an unusual incident involving the Knight Bus captured the attention of the wizarding world, as reported by the Daily Prophet. On 25 October, the driver, Ernest Prang, came to a sudden halt after spotting a shiny pumpkin in the road. The bus conducter, Stanley Shunpike, checked the area but found nothing out of the ordinary, so they resumed their journey. However, as they approached Northampton, hundreds of pumpkins mysteriously appeared behind the bus.[1]
Chaos ensued when Ernie discovered Stan with a glowing pumpkin inexplicably perched on his head. In a panic, he waved his wand and banished the pumpkin. Upon inspecting the bus, they found that all the passengers had vanished, leaving behind a single pumpkin in each bed.[1]
The bizarre event quickly became the talk of the town. When Rubeus Hagrid, the Professor of Care of Magical Creatures, heard the tale, he sheepishly admitted to his students that he had been transporting a load of carved pumpkins to Hogwarts via the Knight Bus, unaware that his actions were creating a scene straight out of a horror story. Just when it seemed the matter was settled, Hagrid added that he hadn't brought the carved pumpkins into the Hogwarts corridors, leaving everyone to wonder who had moved them there. At that moment, one student fainted in terror, as everyone sensed the presence of something watching them — what no one saw: a haunted pumpkin.[1]
