- "Useful for some potions, including Doxycide."
- — Description[src]
Hemlock is the common name of Conium maculatum, a perennial herbaceous flowering plant widely known for being highly poisonous.[4]
History[]
It could be used as a potion ingredient,[3] and a "good glug" of hemlock essence was an ingredient in Zygmunt Budge's personal and highly effective recipe for Doxycide.[2]
During the 1990–1991 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Professor Pomona Sprout grew Hemlock, along with Cowbane and Tormentil in the Herbology greenhouses, in response to an infestation of doxies in Hogwarts Castle in which students were getting bitten and winding up in the Hospital Wing. She had Jacob's sibling, Chiara Lobosca and Barnaby Lee harvest these plants in the greenhouses so Doxycide could be brewed.[1]
