The Hogwarts Basement was a small cupboard off the Dungeon Corridor, just before the dungeon hall.

Behind the scenes

• In the film and video game, this room was where Rubeus Hagrid hid Aragog in the early 1940s and, consequently, where Hagrid was framed by Tom Riddle on 13 June 1943 as the one who had unleashed Slytherin's monster. In the book, Harry said that Hagrid hid Aragog in the same dungeon where Severus Snape taught potions in the 1990s.
