- "Mrs — Miss — Bagshot?"
- — Harry Potter to Bathilda Bagshot[src]
An honorific is a polite title that is given before a person's name. They included "Mr", "Sir", "Esquire", "Lord", "Mrs", "Miss", "Ms", "Dame" and "Lady". Sometimes "Madam"[1] and "Professor" could also be used.[2]
Remus Lupin mentioned that "there are no wizarding princes" to Harry Potter when discussing the identity of the Half-Blood Prince, aka Severus Snape.[3] As "prince" is a title that usually refers to the heir of a royal kingdom, it can therefore be inferred that there are no wizarding kings or emperors either.[4]

Behind the scenes[]
- The ghost of Helena Ravenclaw was also known as the "Grey Lady",[5][19] but it is unknown if she was called that during her lifetime. The same applies to the Fat Lady, whose portrait was only known by that name, with no other identifiable information.[1]
- Tom Riddle styled himself as "Lord Voldemort", but he was not actually a noble lord, as he was descended from the middle-class Riddle family on his father's side.[20]
- Interestingly, Tom and Severus Snape, who were alike in many ways, both falsely assumed a noble title when they weren't nobility.
- Real-world actors and actresses who possessed honorific titles include Sir Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore), Dame Maggie Smith (Minerva McGonagall), Dame Julie Walters (Molly Weasley), Sir John Hurt (Garrick Ollivander) and Dame Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge).
- Giving their pets an honorific before their name was a common practice within the wizarding world, such as with the amphibians Sir Ribbithe and Sir Fitzroy.
