This Horned Serpent lived in the Magical Creatures Reserve in the 1980s and 1990s.

Biography

During the 1980s or 1990s, this Horned Serpent lived in the Open Oceans in the Magical Creatures Reserve, and Jacob's sibling would often bond with and feed this Horned Serpent.

In the 1980s or early 1990s, the Ministry's Research Wing required urgent assistance to locate a missing research team that had disappeared in a perilous ancient waterway which was rumoured to have once been a migration path for Horned Serpents. They contacted Jacob's sibling for help and requested the aid of this Horned Serpent in the hope that it could follow its species's migration path and help locate the missing research team. Jacob's sibling agreed and sent this Horned Serpent to help out. This Horned Serpent successfully navigated the treacherous waters and managed to locate the missing research team trapped within a small underwater cave, helping to rescue them safely before returning to the Magical Creatures Reserve.

During the 1986–1987 school year, this Horned Serpent met a female Horned Serpent, later known as Red, and fathered an egg with her. However, the egg was threatened by an incoming oceanic cold front, which could prevent it from hatching. While this Horned Serpent guarded the egg, Red attempted to seek help to protect the egg, with her warning noises being noticed by Liz Tuttle. Believing that Red was this Horned Serpent, Liz informed Jacob's sibling of the situation, with the two eventually realising that this Horned Serpent seemed to be missing.

Jacob's sibling sought out Rubeus Hagrid to help them locate this Horned Serpent. After helping Hagrid find some Gillyweed in his hut so they could breathe underwater, the two dove into the ocean at the Magical Creatures Reserve and found this Horned Serpent and Red coiled around their egg in a nest. Realising that the egg belonged to this Horned Serpent, Hagrid sought to check the ocean conditions at the reserve to ensure the egg would safely hatch, contacting Holly Blackbird for her opinion on the situation. Hagrid discovered the approaching cold front and, fearing for the egg's safety, he informed Jacob's sibling of the situation. However, as Hagrid had to deal with an urgent Flobberworm infestation, he sent Jacob's sibling to meet with a visiting Holly to help this Horned Serpent and Red save their egg.

Jacob's sibling and Holly met up in the Magical Creatures Reserve and planned to bury this Horned Serpent's egg in sand to help keep it safe and warm before returning it to its nest when it was ready to hatch. They reasoned that, while this Horned Serpent would trust them enough to approach the egg, they would still need to convince Red, who would be extremely protective of her egg. Jacob's sibling and Holly met with Hagrid in his hut to plan out how to earn Red's trust, eventually deciding on Jacob's sibling attempting to mirror Red's movements and behavior to help convey their intentions to her. After assessing Jacob's sibling's confidence with the technique, Holly explained that they would use the Bubble-Head Charm to dive down to the nest and that she would be there to supervise should anything go wrong.

After casting the Bubble-Head Charm, Jacob's sibling and Holly returned to the underwater nest, finding only Red guarding the egg. Holly kept watch for this Horned Serpent while Jacob's sibling successfully mirrored Red's movements and convinced her of their intentions to help protect the egg. Now understanding that they were trying to help, Red and this Horned Serpent allowed Jacob's sibling to take their egg. While this Horned Serpent and Red watched on, Jacob's sibling and Holly took their egg back to the surface, where they and Hagrid located a spot on the beach that was warm enough and close enough to the water for the egg to be safely buried. Jacob's sibling used the Gouging Spell to open up a hole in the sand in which they placed the egg before closing up the hole with the Knockback Jinx. Holly volunteered to keep an eye on the egg to determine when it was close enough to hatching that it was safe to return it to the nest.

Holly soon saw the sand around the egg starting to shift and, knowing that it could hatch at any point, called Jacob's sibling and Hagrid back to the Magical Creatures Reserve. Fearing that using magic to dig up the delicate egg could damage it, the three decided to unearth the egg by hand. Once the egg was uncovered, Jacob's sibling cast the Bubble-Head Charm once again so that they, Holly, and Hagrid could return the egg back to its nest. As both this Horned Serpent and Red trusted them, Jacob's sibling was chosen to be the one to return their egg to their nest. Once Jacob's sibling had returned the egg, they, Holly, and Hagrid kept a close watch as this Horned Serpent and Red cared for their egg in case they needed to intervene.

Fortunately, the egg was successfully able to hatch, with this Horned Serpent and Red happily beginning to care for their new baby. Holly theorised that, once the cold front hit, either this Horned Serpent or Red would take their baby to warmer waters, but that they would soon return in a warmer season, as Horned Serpents always returned to their birthplace. Hagrid and Holly congratulated Jacob's sibling for helping this Horned Serpent's egg hatch successfully, with Holly giving Jacob's sibling a necklace as a present, while this Horned Serpent and Red calmly watched as their baby began to play with Jacob's sibling.

• The Horned Serpent's name, just like all creatures in the Magical Creatures Reserve, can be customised by the player. The dialogue of the quest will subsequently change according to the name determined by the player.
