The Horton-Keitch Braking Charm (incantation unknown) was a charm patented by Basil Horton and Randolph Keitch that allowed for broom-riders to stop more precisely. It was applied to all broomsticks built by the Comet Trading Company. This particular Braking Charm allowed Quidditch players to be less likely to overshoot goals or fly offside.[1]
History
Case of the Missing Comet
After Jacob's sibling's first Quidditch match, Skye Parkin decided to give them her old Comet 220 broom, which had the Horton-Keitch Braking Charm. However, it went missing, and the team investigated the case (which was known as the Case of the Missing Comet). After the case concluded, Rubeus Hagrid and Madam Hooch bought Jacob's sibling a new Comet 260 broom which had this Braking Charm, and Jacob's sibling made a Broom Drift on the broom, taking advantage of the Charm.[2]
