The ICW Department of Aurors[1] was an organisation of highly trained, international law-keepers and crime-fighters that operated under the jurisdiction of the International Confederation of Wizards, and employed to assist its member countries in the capture of wizarding criminals that was internationally wanted.
Function[]
Unlike its equivalents at various magical governments around the world, whose jurisdiction was typically limited to the country or countries that fell within the purview of the governing body they served unless they received prior permission to operate in foreign parts by their relevant counterpart, the ICW Department of Aurors, on the other hand, was not restricted to the borders of any one country and was authorised to operate within the member countries of the Confederation during manhunts for internationally wanted wizarding criminals. This was, at least presumably, insofar that they did not do anything to undermine the authority of local wizarding authorities on their own their native soil.
History[]
Founded sometime after the establishment of International Statute of Secrecy in 1692, the ICW Department of Aurors was in operation by the early 20th century, when it oversaw the extradition of Gellert Grindelwald from New York to Europe so he could stand trail for his many crimes on the continent. On this occasion, ten of its agents accompanied Rudolph Spielman, the Head of Incarceration, to guard the prisoner and assist in the transportation. In this, they were ultimately unsuccessful, however, as Grindelwald escaped custody.[2]
Following Grindelwald's escape, the ICW Department of Aurors participated in the revived manhunt, and issued international wanted posters to be hung up around wizard-only locations in the magical community.[1]
