Badeea Ali, a Muslim student at Hogwarts who wore a hijab
Islam is an Abrahamic monotheistic faith and the second-largest religion in the world. Its adherents are known as Muslims. They have the Quran as their holy book and follow Muhammad as their central prophet.[1] Jesus is revered as their second highest Prophet.[2]
History[]
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry taught young wizards and witches from multiple religions, including Islam.[3] Badeea Ali, a Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1980s, was a Muslim, as she wore a blue hijab, traditional to women of the faith and had an Arabic name,[4] and celebrated Ramadan.[5]
In 1996, The Guardian reported on the collapse of the Millennium Bridge, noting that both the Islamic fundamentalist group Al-Hiraza and the Basque separatist group ETA had been implicated in the attack by Muggle authorities (in actuality though, this disaster was caused by a group of Death Eaters led by werewolf Fenrir Greyback).[6]
Behind the scenes[]
- Numerous places, names and references in the Harry Potter universe are presumed to be affiliated with the Arabic or Muslim world, including but not limited to the Qizilbash company and witches and wizards such as Jasichus, Calid, Mustafa Kama, Omar Abasi, Zubeida Khan, Ali Bashir, Hassan Mostafa, Arif Sikander and Rawya Zaghloul, among others.
