These notebooks were a collection of journals that belonged to Jacob sometime between him being a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and being trapped in the Cursed Portrait Vault, and were used to chronicle progress reports pertaining to his search for the Cursed Vaults. These were often written in code to prevent others from reading them. According to Madam Rosmerta, the landlady of the Three Broomsticks Inn in Hogsmeade Village, Jacob would often spend his time at her establishment quietly writing in them.[1]
History[]
After Rosmerta found one for Jacob's sibling in the Three Broomsticks Inn among other items, Argus Filch confiscated from them on Severus Snape's orders, as the books contained information about the Cursed Vaults.[1] Jacob's sibling and Nymphadora Tonks then conspired to scare Filch from his office to retrieve the books. They either brought a Nose-Biting Teacup or Fanged Frisbee from Zonko's Joke Shop and placed it inside Filch's office in a present box, and when Filch opened it, the prank device forced him to retreat with Mrs Norris. Afterwards, Jacob's sibling could retrieve and read the notebooks in peace.[2]
