Jude Law (born 29 December 1972) is an English actor, who portrays Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald[2] and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
- Law starred in the 2004 film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow alongside Michael Gambon, who coincidentally stepped into the role of Dumbledore that same year in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. To date, this is the only occurrence of two different Dumbledore actors being in a film together.
- Law starred in the 2011 film Hugo, which is based on The Invention of Hugo Cabret, a historical fiction book written and illustrated by Brian Selznick, the cover artist for the US 20th Anniversary Edition of Harry Potter.
- Gellert Grindelwald actor Johnny Depp is one of the producers for this film and also had a cameo in it.
- Law, alongside Johnny Depp and Percival Graves actor Colin Farrell, portrayed the same character under different stages of transformation in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
- They were recast of the same role due to the death of the character's original actor, Heath Ledger.
- While promoting Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Jude Law, Katherine Waterston, and Eddie Redmayne were at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Jude got the chance to sit in Dumbledore's chair in his office and Eddie said comedically, 'Not yet mate, you've got a few more years to come'.[4]
- Law's accent for Dumbledore is Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in distinctively Irish, despite him using his natural English accent for Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. This was probably done to match the natural accents of Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, who were both Irish. Law's accent change has been labelled inconsistent by critics.[5]
