Julian Glover is an English actor who provided the voice of Aragog in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He is also well known for his role as the villainous Grand Maester Pycelle in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones alongside other Harry Potter alumni such as Michelle Fairley, Natalia Tena, David Bradley, Edward Tudor-Pole and Bronson Webb. His other notable films include Troy (2004), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
Biography
Early life
Glover was born in Hampstead, the son of Honor (née Wyatt), a close friend of the novelist Barbara Pym, and C. Gordon Glover, a BBC radio producer. His half brother is the musician Robert Wyatt. He attended Bristol Grammar School in Bristol, England, where he was in the same class as actors Timothy West and "Darth Vader" actor David Prowse, and also Alleyn's School in Dulwich.
Awards
- His performance in the title role of the Royal Shakespeare Company's staging of Henry IV, Part 1 and Part 2, at the Barbican Centre in London, earned him the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in 1993.
- He was awarded the Laurence Olivier Award in 1993 (1992 season) for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Henry V at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
