This cursed book was bought by Kevin Farrell from Knockturn Alley at some point during the 2009–2010 school year. This book, once began, would force the reader into a reading trance leaving every other task behind, even sleeping.

History

The day after Kevin began reading the book, he was absent from all his classes. Knowing that Kevin would never willingly miss class, his fellow Gryffindor, Robyn Thistlethwaite, got worried. Thinking first he had a cold, she asked his dormmates about him, but they told her he never went to bed the night before. She also asked Madam Pomfrey about him, but she hadn't seen him either. When Cassandra Vole went to mock Robyn and another student about losing a friend, she mentioned that Moaning Myrtle was whining about a boy with glasses in her bathroom that kept ignoring her in favour of reading some book.

Robyn and the student found Kevin in the girls' bathroom and figured out that he was in a reading trance. Robyn remembered that her mother told her about a witch in Bath who owned a book that, once opened, could never stop being read. Robyn tried to snatch the book from Kevin, but it didn't work. The student and Robyn decided to destroy the book with the Expulso Curse but the book manipulated Kevin into fighting back. After destroying the book, Kevin regained control over his body, but he didn't remember anything after opening the book. After explaining to Kevin that his book was cursed, Robyn took him to see Madam Pomfrey.
