"Knarl quills are a useful magical ingredient, if you can get close enough to acquire them."
Book of Potions[src]

Knarl quills were sharp spines which cover the Knarl, a magical beast which heavily resembled the hedgehog. They could be used as ingredients in the brewing of certain potions.[1]

The famous Potioneer Zygmunt Budge used Knarl quills in his development and brewing of the Laughing Potion, a potion he himself invented, sometime in or after the 16th century.[1]

In 1995, Fred and George Weasley paid Mundungus Fletcher six Sickles for a bag of knarl quills, to experiment with for possible use in their Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes products.[3]
