"Horace?... Mind if I take this? I do love knitting patterns."
— Albus Dumbledore asking Horace Slughorn[src]

Knitter's Own was a Muggle magazine which focused on the craft of knitting, published by the Knitting Club. In 1996, Albus Dumbledore found a copy of this magazine in the Muggle-owned house in Budleigh Babberton in which Horace Slughorn was hiding, and asked Horace if he could borrow it, although it technically wasn't Horace's to lend.

The issue of the magazine offered 27 "scrumptious" patterns, a step-by-step crochet guide to "classic and contemporary" looks, "many perfect" gift ideas, a free crochet hook, a chance to win £100 worth of the yarn of the season, and an "expert tip of the month" on how to make cosy socks for one's family.

Behind the scenes

  • The magazine was created entirely for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film, as there is no real world Knitter's Own magazine. The design, however, seems to have been based on the real magazine Knitter's.
  • The woman on the prop magazine cover is often mistaken by fans for author J. K. Rowling, but is actually a member of the production team's art department, who happened to be wearing a suitable-looking woolly cardigan on the day when the graphic artist was designing the magazine.
