A lead investigator was a designation held by some Officers in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and denoted an individual who had been put in charge of a criminal investigation and had at least some other investigators reporting to them.[1]

Following a marked rise in Muggle-baiting incidents perpetrated by the anarchist organisation known as the Nocturnal Order of Tricks and Magical Exhibitions, Linderina Crane from the Improper Use of Magic Office was put in charge of investigating them.[1]
