Leslie Phillips was an English actor, who provided the voice for the Sorting Hat in the the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and the second part of the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.[2]

Career[]

Leslie Samuel Phillips OBE, was born on 20 April 1924 in Tottenham, London, England. He attended the Italia Conti School and received elocution lessons to lose his cockney accent (at the time most British actors spoke with a polished British accent) He has appeared in countless films and television shows including: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The Longest Day and Doctor in Trouble. He also starred as a fictionalised version of himself alongside Dennis Pryce (who was later replaced by Stephen Murray) and Jon Pertwee (notable for playing the Third Doctor in Doctor Who) in the BBC radio sitcom The Navy Lark from 1959 to 1977, and portrayed the character of Lieutenant Pouter in the 1959 film adaptation of the show.[2]

He died on 7 November, 2022.[1]
