On or after 31 July 1980, Lily Potter sent a letter to her elder sister Petunia Dursley announcing the birth of the former's son. However, Petunia merely and contemptuously tossed the letter in the bin after one look. This was the last known piece of correspondence between the Evans sisters before Lily's death at the hands of Lord Voldemort less than two years after the letter. Prior to the letter's delivery, Lily and Petunia had all but parted ways due to the former's magical abilities.[1]
