Lithomancy was a form of divination that involved stones. It involved the usage of thirteen stones each with unique meanings. The stones were held over a star chart and allowed to drop where they may, with the placement of the fallen stones revealing their hidden message.[1]

The Sun stone represented power, energy and life. The Universe stone represented people's place in the grand scheme. The Moonstone inspiration and intuition. The Water stone represented compassion, healing and cleansing.[1]

Other stones included the Spirit stone, Fire stone, Earth stone, Mars stone, Saturn stone and Air stone. There was no Creature stone.[1]

History[]

Lithomancy was taught to seventh-year Divination students by Professor Trelawney at Hogwarts during the 1990–1991 school year.[1]

  • Although it is stated that lithomancy involves thirteen stones, only eleven are actually shown in-game.
