This locket[3] was a container for a memory of the Keepers. It also contained a map to a book in the Restricted Section. It was a piece of a trail that Percival Rackham created to lead those who perceive ancient magic to the Map Chamber.[2]
History[]
During the Tudor period, the Keepers created a trail to help witches or wizards who could perceive ancient magic find their Map Chamber. Once they were there, they would be tested in trials in order to refine their abilities. Percival opened up Vault 12 at Gringotts where he levitated the locket above a Pensieve. Within the locket, he put a memory for the Pensieve of himself setting it up with Charles Rookwood.[1]
Centuries later, Eleazar Fig followed the trail with the help of a Hogwarts student who could perceive ancient magic. They entered the vault where they found the locket after defeating Guardians protecting it. They viewed the memory before Ranrok arrived. He tried to steal the locket but they escaped to Hogwarts with it.[1]
Eleazar kept the locket. He eventually opened it up to discover a map of the school when he read the inscription on it. He called for the student to help read the map because it had traces of ancient magic on it. They discovered it led to a book within the Restricted Section.[3]
