Lodgok (d. 1891)[1] was a goblin metal trader who lived in the late 19th century.[2] He was the younger brother of Ranrok, the leader of a goblin rebellion.[1] Although he supported his brother for most of his life, he became disillusioned with Ranrok's ideals for goblin supremacy when he encountered a kind witch known as Miriam Fig. He defected from Ranrok's Loyalists and started an independent life.[3] In the end, Lodgok was killed by Ranrok for his treason.[1]

Biography[]

Ranrok's Loyalists[]

Lodgok was the brother of Ranrok and a descendant of Bragbor the Boastful.[1] He was a metal trader,[2] and eventually a member of his brother's Loyalists. In the 1880s, he journeyed to Rookwood Castle to explore the secrets of ancient magic hidden within. There, he met Miriam Fig, a kind researcher and a witch. Although Lodgok, like all of Ranrok's Loyalists, had been raised by Ranrok to despise wizardkind, Miriam's behaviour to Lodgok showed him that not all wizards were bad. He became disillusioned with Ranrok's philosophy and defected from his brother's cause.[3] This earned him the hatred of his brother, who considered him a traitor.[1]

Fighting for wizardkind[]

By 1890, Lodgok had retired from his work as a metal trader.[2] He kept a low profile in Hogsmeade, where he was friendly with Sirona Ryan, the proprietor of the Three Broomsticks Inn.[4]

In the 1890–1891 school year, he met with a new Hogwarts student and asked them to retrieve the Helmet of Urtkot with the hope that it could be used as a gift for Ranrok, and that if he was pleased with it, he could spill information on his plans. When the student returned with the helmet, Lodgok expressed that it could help to distract Ranrok from his "search", slipping up that he knew more than he was letting on.[4]

The helmet plan did not work, but Lodgok eventually told the student that Ranrok was searching for the repositories of ancient magic constructed by their ancestor, Bragbor the Boastful. At Lodgok's behest, the student and Amit Thakkar infiltrated the Mine's Eye to uncover Ranrok's plans. They found the blueprints for large drills. After the mission, Lodgok told the student about his experiences with Miriam Fig.[3]

Death[]

Ranrok, along with Victor Rookwood, found Lodgok with the student in the mine. Ranrok confronted Lodgok about his betrayal, and amid his ranting, Rookwood remarked about how their ancestors ever trusted each other. Ranrok then realised that he was wasting his time chasing a child and that he didn't need Lodgok or even Rookwood to access the final repository. He then called Lodgok a traitor to goblin kind before killing him with a blast of corrupted ancient magic. Victor Rookwood, realising his alliance had been broken, attempted to kill Ranrok with the Killing Curse, but missed. The student then fled the mine, remarking their regret regarding Lodgok's death.

Personality and traits[]

Lodgok was a kind goblin who wanted to be understood. He was thoughtful and liked to find solutions.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

  • Lodgok is voiced by English actor Greg Ellis in Hogwarts Legacy.[5]
  • Lodgok is the first non-human creature known to use owls to deliver messages, showing not merely wizards made use of owl post.
