- "Disembodied human hand."
- — Folio Bruti[src]
A Loose Hand (also known as a Severed Hand or Disembodied Hand) was a detached human hand that was lacking in any other part of a human's anatomy, that was possessed by a malevolent spirit, gaining the ability the stand, walk, and attack any passerby it wishes to. It was particularly vulnerable to the Fire-Making Spell, and the Skurge Charm when it was possessed.[1] This was Dean Thomas's greatest fear and Boggart at least from the 1993–1994 school year, but he likely developed the fear previously.[2]
History[]
In September 1993, a Boggart took the form of a severed hand in a third-year Defence Against the Dark Arts class, when Dean Thomas faced it. When he used the Boggart-Banishing Spell against it, the hand got caught in a mouse trap.[2]
