"These plants are most efficacious in the inflaming of the brain, and are therefore much used in Confusing and Befuddlement Draughts, where the wizard is desirous of producing hot-headedness and recklessness…"
—A passage about the uses of scurvy grass, lovage and sneezewort[src]

A jar of Lovage

Lovage (Levisticum officinale) is a plant similar to celery, whose fruit and seeds are used in cooking. It has been used in herbal medicines for centuries, especially to facilitate digestion.[1]

According to one of Harry's school books, lovage is "most efficacious in the inflaming of the brain", and is used as an ingredient in Confusing and Befuddlement Draughts.[2] It is also an ingredient in the Invigoration Draught.[3]
