"What's in the Love Room. It's the place where they study what Love means. So that room, I believe, would have at its centre, a kind of fountain or well containing a love potion, a very powerful love potion... that's what they would've found in the Love Room. So you would see wizards and witches taking it, they would study the effects. The room, of course, has to be locked."
J. K. Rowling discussing the Love Room[src]

The Love Room was a room in the Department of Mysteries devoted to the study of love. It was located on the ninth level of the Ministry of Magic in London, England.[1][2]

Description[]

"There is a room in the Department of Mysteries that is kept locked at all times. It contains a force that is at once more wonderful and more terrible than death, than human intelligence, than the forces of nature. It is also, perhaps, the most mysterious of the many subjects for study that reside there. It is the power held within that room that you possess in such quantities and which Voldemort has not at all."
Albus Dumbledore talking about the Love Room[src]

The Love Room was behind a door that remained locked at all times and which could not be unlocked by Alohomora or magical unlocking penknives.[1] In the room was a fountain or a well that was believed to hold a deposit of Amortentia, the most powerful love potion in existence. Unspeakables would take this potion and study the effects.[3]

History[]

On 18 June 1996, part of a battle of the Second Wizarding War was thought to have been fought in the Love Chamber after Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron and Ginny Weasley, Neville Longbottom, and Luna Lovegood arrived in the Department of Mysteries in search of Sirius Black.[4] The six Dumbledore's Army members, however, actually tried to enter the chamber upon their arrival, but the door refused to open.[1]
