This prison was a set of cells used to hold detained witches and wizards in the headquarters of the Magical Congress of the United States of America.

Description[]

The prison cells were at the basement of the Woolworth Building. The main cell room had hundreds of cage-like cells stacked on top of each other. In the middle of the room there was a staircase with iron bars on both sides, leading up the the rooftop of Woolworth Building. There was a hallway at the bottom of the room which was for very dangerous prisoners. The rooms were very dark, and were locked by an ominous-looking iron door with a sliding window, which could only fit your eyes. There were at least ten rooms in that section of the prison.[1]

History[]

In 1926, after capturing Gellert Grindelwald[2], MACUSA put him in a guarded part of the prison. During his prison time, he tried to persuade prison guards to let him out. They had to change his guard three times, and ended up cutting his tongue out of his mouth to avoid any more rhetorical issues.[1]

In 1927, sometime before Grindelwald was due to be transported to another prison in Europe, Abernathy joined the Dark wizard's cause and helped facilitate his escape by having the pair of them switch identities.[1]

While being moved, four Aurors climbed a large staircase, leading to the rooftop of the building. The caged prisoners (presumably captive Alliance members and/or converts to the dark wizard's ideology) chanted Grindelwald's name fanatically while he listened to them, getting ready for his escape.[3]
