A Magical Law Enforcement Officer,[1] sometimes abbreviated to "Officer", was a law-keeper in the wizarding world. Working for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement of the British Ministry of Magic, their job was to stop crime and catch criminals guilty of an offence that fell within the scope of the type of legislation that they were employed to uphold.

Magical Law Enforcement Officers were given a badge featuring the insignia of their Department, which identified them as vested by the Ministry with the authority to issue formal warnings, hand out fines, seize private property, make investigative inquiries, confiscate contraband and other illegal items, detain suspects, carry out arrests and use other appropriate means of policing wizarding Britain within his or her jurisdiction. Cerberus Langarm[2] of the British Auror Office, and Myra Curio,[3] of the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office, were known examples of Officers.[1]
