Masking Spells were a wide range of charms that could be used to mask the presence of a witch or wizard, thereby making them untraceable.[1] Thus owls could not be used to track or send post to them, one of the few reliable methods of doing so, along with Disguising Spells and Repelling Spells.[1]
If a witch or wizard was determined to become uncontactable by a specific individual, such as a debtor or ex-boyfriend or girlfriend, then one could use a Masking Spell against that particular person.[1] While very powerful and effective, the spell could easily be circumnavigated by having someone else send the post.[1]
