Max, formerly known as HBO Max, is an American subscription video on demand streaming service owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). Launched on 27 May 2020, as HBO Max, the platform was created to bring together a vast collection of content from Warner Bros., HBO, and various WarnerMedia brands.[1]
The Wizarding World on Max[]
Max has positioned itself as the streaming home for several projects related to the Wizarding World franchise. It hosts the complete collection of Harry Potter films and Fantastic Beasts films. Beyond the main films, Max has curated a selection of Wizarding World content:[2]
- Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (2022): This special program reunited the original cast and crew of the Harry Potter films to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the series' first film. It premiered on 1 January 2022.[3]
- Fantastic Beasts: A Natural History (2022): Released on 1 April 2022, this documentary, narrated by Stephen Fry, explores the creatures that inspired J.K. Rowling’s magical beasts, blending real-world natural history with the fantastical creatures of the Wizarding World.
- Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking (2024): Set to debut on 14 November 2024, this series will combine the love of baking with the magical elements of the Wizarding World. Contestants will compete to create edible versions of iconic magical creatures, potions, and locations.[4]
Future Projects[]
Max also promises to continue expanding its Wizarding World offerings with an upcoming Harry Potter television series. J. K. Rowling is set to executive produce the series,[5] which will faithfully adapt each of the seven Harry Potter books into seven series.[6] The show will span the course of a decade,[6] airing one series per book, and feature an entirely new cast.[7]
