"Is this all real? Or has this been happening inside my head?"
The topic of this article is of a real-life subject that has been mentioned "in-universe" in a canon source. The Harry Potter Wiki is written from the perspective that all information presented in canon is true (e.g., Hogwarts really existed), and, as such, details contained in this article may differ from real world facts. |
The Mayflower was an English merchant ship of the early 17th century, which became notable for transporting the first English Separatists, today known as the Pilgrims, from England to the New World in 1620.[1][2]
History[]
Among its passengers was witch Isolt Sayre, disguised as a Muggle boy and under the name "Elias Story". Sayre was fleeing from her fanatically pure-blood aunt, who had raised her cruelly and in seclusion, after having stolen her wand. The wand, as it turned out, was an important historical artefact, as it had originally belonged to Salazar Slytherin, one of the Hogwarts founders.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
- In real-life history, the Mayflower did carry a "Elias Story" in its 1620 voyage.[4] Apart from the fact that he came in the care of the Winslow family and that he died the first winter at Plymouth, little else is known about the historical Elias Story. The fact that he did not sign the Mayflower Compact suggests he was likely under the age of 18 or 21.
- "Elias Story" is also an anagram of Isolt Sayre.
