- "...as trained mediwizards hurry onto the field to examine Aidan Lynch!"
- — Mediwizards attending to a player during a Quidditch match[src]
A mediwizard was the wizarding equivalent to a medic.[1] Mediwizards worked at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.[2] Mediwizards were also field doctors and they tended to injuries at events such as Quidditch games, magical tournaments, and other wizarding events.[1]
History[]
In 1926, the New York Ghost reported that a renowned mediwizard was revealed to have brewed poisoned potions.[3]
Mediwizards were present at the 1994 Quidditch World Cup, during which they examined Aidan Lynch.[1]
Etymology[]
"Mediwizard" is a portmanteau of "medical wizard".
Behind the scenes[]
- The exact relationship between mediwizards and Healers is never made explicitly clear. Given the context where they are seen, mediwizards may be Healers specialising in traumatic injuries or the wizarding world equivalent of first responders. "Mediwizard" may also simply be an alternate term for Healer.
