Merlin's Self-supporting Socks were a brand of socks sold at Gladrags Wizardwear that, judging by their name and their picture, could magically stand upright on their own. They were men's full length socks, made of 100% fine wool.
History[]
During the 1985–1986 school year, Jacob's sibling found a pair of these socks amongst the confiscated items in Filch's office. They took them as their present for the White Hippogriff gift exchange, but eventually gave them to Albus Dumbledore.[1]

An advertisement for these socks in the Daily Prophet
Gladrags put out an advertisement for a variety of their products in the Daily Prophet sometime in the 1990s, including these socks. The advertisement announced that they were now being sold 3 for the price of 2.[2]
