"By creating devices to enhance the meteor viewing, we can combine all four Sphinx Club specialty subjects!"
Jacob's sibling[src]

This device was a magically enchanted optical viewing device used to observe a meteor shower. Its enchantments allowed users to view light outside of the normal visible spectrum of light available to most humans, amongst other things.

History[]

During the late 1880s, astronomers at Hogwarts invented and used this device to observe a rare and particularly spectacular meteor shower that occurred. They wrote about their device and gave instructions to build it, which they left copies of in the Hogwarts Library.

Almost one-hundred years later, in the late 1980s, the rare meteor shower was set to appear again and Albus Dumbledore wanted to use the event as the setting for the Sphinx Club's demonstration as part of the student club challenge programme. The members of the Sphinx Club discovered the instructions for creating the device which the previous astronomers had left and Minerva McGonagall and Aurora Sinistra recreated it. Filius Flitwick later enchanted the device to allow it to view light outside of the visible spectrum, allowing the demonstration to be a great success.[1]
