Minami Iwo Jima (also called South Iwo Jima) was a small, volcanic island, which belonged to Japan and was situated about sixty kilometres south of Iwo Jima.[1][2] It was part of the Volcano Islands, a group of three islands located several hundred kilometres to the south of the Home Islands, the main Japanese archipelago.[2]

Although thought to be uninhabited by Muggles, the island's topmost point was home to an ornate palace that housed the Japanese wizarding school, Mahoutokoro.[3]
