- McGonagall: "Very well... Reparifarge! What's this?"
- Students: "Surprise! Happy birthday, Professor McGonagall!"
- — Minerva McGonagall being surprised by her birthday cake[src]
On Headmistress McGonagall's birthday, in one of the years between 2008 and 2011, a birthday cake was made by a group of students to surprise her.[1]
History[]
At some point between the 2008–2009 and the 2011–2012 school year, on 4 October, a group of students overheard the Hogwarts house-elves discussing how Headmistress McGonagall didn’t want them to make a fuss for her birthday. Inspired by this, the students came up with the idea of a birthday surprise. Together, Daniel Page, Ivy Warrington, Lottie Turner, Robyn Thistlethwaite, Kevin Farrell, and their friend baked a chocolate four-tier birthday cake top with white cream and transfigured it into a cauldron. They then brought the cauldron to Professor McGonagall and asked her to teach them how to cast Reparifarge by demonstrating it on the cauldron. Once she did, the cauldron untransfigured back into the cake, surprising her.[1]
