Miriam Margolyes (born 18 May 1941) is a British-Australian actress who portrays Professor Pomona Sprout in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and reprised the role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
In 2017, Margolyes was reported to have had a "tetchy" reaction to the question of if she had seen the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, stating that she was "not interested in Harry Potter anymore", though she did later "calm down" and state that she was "glad it's a success" but that it has nothing for her.[2] In 2024, she said that adult Harry Potter fans should "move on" and "grow up".[3]
In a June 2023 interview with Vogue UK, she had said her performance as Professor Sprout introduced her to a new and younger generation, but said "it doesn't mean as much to me as it does to them", and that the Harry Potter franchise wasn't important to her and her career, despite being "glad I got the part", and concluded it is not Charles Dickens.[4]
In a February 2024 interview with New Zealand's 1 News, she said "[Adult fans] should be over that by now, You know, I mean, it was 25 years ago, and it's for children. I think it's for children". She often does short videos on the website Cameo.com and often gets requests from people on there. Despite this comment, she said it is wonderful and is grateful for being part of the franchise.[5][6]
