Moondew was a flowering plant found in Scotland and, possibly, Ireland. The magical properties of Moondew were discovered by druidess Cliodna in the Middle Ages.[1] Moondew was used in liquid form for Potion-making and was an essential ingredient of the Wiggenweld Potion[2] and the Draught of Living Death.[3]
It was also used in extra-sweet Butterbeer, concocted by Madam Rosmerta.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the console versions of the Philosopher's Stone video game, Moondew is used as an ingredient in the Antidote to Common Poisons, though this contradicts the recipe shown on Pottermore. It is also possible that the one shown in the video game is an alternative recipe.
