Mr Leucrotta was a male Leucrotta who lived in the 1980s.[1]
Biography[]
During the 1988–1989 school year, Mr Leucrotta lived in London as one of the many magical beasts tamed by Newt Scamander. However, despite Newt's skill, Mr Leucrotta refused to open his jaws to allow Newt or Bunty Broadacre to clean his teeth, rendering his food unpalatable. Unsure of what was troubling the Leucrotta, Newt contacted his close friend, Professor Silvanus Kettleburn, who brought Mr Leucrotta to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, finding himself still unable to convince the beast to allow him to clean his teeth and desiring to keep his current prosthetic limbs intact, Kettleburn attempted to contact Rubeus Hagrid for assistance, as the half-giant was big and strong enough to open the Leucrotta's mouth without losing a limb. Although Hagrid agreed to help out, he had to travel to Hogsmeade for the day and would be unable to help clean Mr Leucrotta's teeth until he returned.[1]
In the meantime, Kettleburn contacted one of his Care of Magical Creatures students, Jacob's sibling, and informed them of the situation. Kettleburn asked Jacob's sibling to help him keep Mr Leucrotta busy until Hagrid returned, to which they agreed. Kettleburn informed Jacob's sibling that Mr Leucrotta was currently in the Forest at the Magical Creatures Reserve and asserted that the beast was in good hands with Jacob's sibling. However, while acknowledging their understanding of Leucrottas from befriending another one at the reserve, he warned them that their large mouths could be dangerous and that they had several other magical abilities that he had no time to explain properly. Understanding the risks, Jacob's sibling accepted the challenge and travelled to the Forest to meet Mr Leucrotta.[1]
Upon arriving at the Forest at the Magical Creatures Reserve, Jacob's sibling encountered Mr Leucrotta and Barnaby Lee, who had also come to visit the beast. After speculating as to why Mr Leucrotta was acting so crankily, Jacob's sibling informed Barnaby of the situation. Barnaby seemed saddened that Mr Leucrotta would have to suffer until Hagrid returned. Jacob's sibling hoped that they could cheer the beast up sooner rather than later, to which Barnaby suggested that they should get to know the Leucrotta better in order to determine what was bothering it. After attempting to approach Mr Leucrotta, the two found that the Leucrotta would allow them to approach and was friendly towards them, but still refused to open his mouth for them. Barnaby commiserated with Mr Leucrotta, claiming that he didn't enjoy brushing either and understood why the beast was trying to avoid it.[1]
Suddenly, Mr Leucrotta perfectly mimicked Barnaby's statement, surprising both him and Jacob's sibling. Realising that the beast had the ability to perfectly mimic human voices, Jacob's sibling suggested that this might have been one of the beast's special magical abilities. Mr Leucrotta finally opened his mouth in front of the pair, with Barnaby attempting to approach in order to lean inside. However, the beast quickly snapped his jaws shut before Barnaby could get too close, although Barnaby was able to see that Mr Leucrotta's teeth looked quite dirty. Barnaby suggested that Mr Leucrotta was attempting to tell them that his teeth needed to be cleaned, with Jacob's sibling further suggesting that the beast might have sensitive teeth. Still unsure of why this might be the case, Jacob's sibling decided to research grooming animals further in the Hogwarts Library to find out more, with Barnaby deciding to stay in the Forest to watch over Mr Leucrotta.[1]
Jacob's sibling sent an owl to Tulip Karasu asking her to meet them in the library and to gather books on grooming animals to help them with their research. Jacob's sibling was surprised to see that Tulip had brought another student with her, with Tulip introducing them as her friend, Kelly, who had been with her when she received Jacob's sibling's owl and asked to tag along in hopes of riling up Madam Irma Pince. The three attempted to find any information that might help them with their problem, although they were unsuccessful. Kelly suggested filling Mr Leucrotta's mouth with funny-tasting soap as a prank to show it not to be afraid of a toothbrush, but Jacob's sibling rejected this idea. However, Jacob's sibling then realised that the Scouring Charm could work, as long as they could perform it without climbing inside the beast's mouth.[1]
Suddenly, Barnaby arrived in the library with Mr Leucrotta, explaining that the pair had become bored waiting and that the beast was still hungry. Jacob's sibling was distressed, as Pince had forbidden creatures from the library and was already in a foul mood. However, Kelly disagreed, claiming that Pince was "just a huffy, uptight witch with a bad attitude and an even worse hat." Tulip attempted to quiet Kelly, fearing that Pince would hear them, but the librarian seemed to have missed their comment, relieving everyone. However, Mr Leucrotta suddenly loudly mimicked Kelly's comment, catching the attention of Pince, who demanded that whoever had made the comment stay where they were so she could punish them. Although everyone else managed to escape, Jacob's sibling was left behind and confronted by Pince, who blamed them for making the offensive remark. Although Jacob's sibling claimed that Kelly had truly made the remark, Pince claimed that she had heard it twice and that the second time was quite clear. Jacob's sibling stated that the repetition of the remark was due to a Leucrotta and its ability to replicate voices, but Pince did not believe them and gave them detention.[1]
Jacob's sibling met up with Barnaby and Mr Leucrotta on the Training Grounds, where Barnaby apologised to Jacob's sibling for having gotten them into trouble. Despite the new setback, Jacob's sibling and Barnaby still planed to try to use the Scouring Charm to clean Mr Leucrotta's teeth, with Barnaby suggesting that, afterwards, Jacob's sibling should bring the beast to meet Madam Pince, hoping to get them out of detention. After convincing Mr Leucrotta that they would clean his teeth using the Scouring Charm rather than a toothbrush, the beast finally opened his mouth and allowed Jacob's sibling to use the charm, successfully cleaning his teeth. However, when Jacob's sibling asked Mr Leucrotta to accompany them back to the library to help them apologise to Pince, the beast suddenly ran away, with Barnaby suggesting that he may have gotten the beast too excited for his first meal in a while. Desiring not to disappoint Kettleburn by failing to watch over Mr Leucrotta after having already disappointed Madam Pince, Jacob's sibling and Barnaby decided to follow the beast to see where he had fled.[1]
Jacob's sibling and Barnaby located Mr Leucrotta in the Forest Grove in the Forbidden Forest, finding the beast attempting to forage for food while being harassed by a flock of pixies, which Jacob's sibling feared the Leucrotta could eat if they weren't careful. Barnaby realised that the beast seemed to get crankier the harder it tried to catch something to eat, with Jacob's sibling suggesting that they should distract Mr Leucrotta until the pixies lost interest before figuring out something else to feed him. The pair successfully managed to distract Mr Leucrotta, with the pixie flock finally leaving the beast alone. However, the two still needed to figure out a plan to feed the beast, with Jacob's sibling suggesting that they should find something less skittish. Jacob's sibling and Barnaby decided that they should feed the beast with fruits and vegetables, as they would not run away and were delicious enough to sustain the creature, to which Mr Leucrotta consented. In order to find some fruits and vegetables, Jacob's sibling decided to lead Mr Leucrotta to Hagrid's Garden.[1]
Upon arriving at Hagrid's Garden, Jacob's sibling and Mr Leucrotta met up with Hagrid, who commended Jacob's sibling on being able to clean the beast's teeth without sustaining any injuries. After explaining how they managed to clean Mr Leucrotta's teeth, Jacob's sibling asked Hagrid if they could feed the hungry beast with some of the pumpkins from his garden, to which Hagrid agreed. After feeding Mr Leucrotta and finally filling his stomach. Mr Leucrotta allowed Jacob's sibling to pet him, revealing the close bond they had formed. With Mr Leucrotta now fed, Jacob's sibling informed Hagrid about their situation with Madam Pince and their idea to have her meet with the Leucrotta so that she could understand their innocence and cancel their detention. Knowing that they would have to talk to her soon, Hagrid assured them that Pince would listen to reason and agreed to ask her to meet Jacob's sibling and Mr Leucrotta in the Care of Magical Creatures classroom to hear their case.[1]
Once Madam Pince arrived at the Care of Magical Creatures classroom, Professor Kettleburn sent an owl to Jacob's sibling to inform them that she was ready to meet. Jacob's sibling arrived to find Pince, Kettleburn, Barnaby, and Mr Leucrotta waiting for them. Kettleburn commended Jacob's sibling for helping him out with Mr Leucrotta, while Jacob's sibling explained to Pince that she had heard the Leucrotta's voice repeating the offensive remark. Pince asserted that bringing a creature into the library was still against the rules, but Barnaby claimed that the situation was his fault, as he was too eager to help the beast get his teeth cleaned. While Pince initially believed that the pair were making up their story, Kettleburn assured her that he had indeed asked Jacob's sibling to watch over Mr Leucrotta.[1]
Pince was still furious about the offensive remark, but Jacob's sibling and Kettleburn convinced her to give Jacob's sibling one final chance to explain themselves. Jacob's sibling and Barnaby were successfully able to convince Pince that Jacob's sibling hadn't made the offensive remark and that, while they couldn't get Kelly to confess, there truly was a Leucrotta in the library. Jacob's sibling apologised for breaking the rule against bringing creatures into the library and allowing Mr Leucrotta to repeat the rude remark, claiming that no one deserved to be treated badly. Mr Leucrotta repeated this statement, finally revealing to Pince that the Leucrotta could indeed perfectly replicate voices.[1]
Now satisfied, Pince claimed that she had jumped to conclusions and apologised to Jacob's sibling, cancelling their detention. Pince asserted that she should have investigated further rather than just reacting based on her original impression, with Kettleburn agreeing that this was a good rule for all to follow and Mr Leucrotta repeating this statement. Kettleburn revealed that, as it was clear that Mr Leucrotta had bonded with Jacob's sibling, Newt had decided to allow him to remain at Hogwarts, greatly pleasing Jacob's sibling, who assured Kettleburn that they would give him regular teeth cleanings and feed him plenty of pumpkins. Pince suggested that Jacob's sibling should also help Mr Leucrotta try to keep better company in the future, with Jacob's sibling asserting that, despite the beast's big mouth, they would help him learn when to keep it shut.[1]
